Welcome to Reception from your class teacher Miss Robinson and your teaching assistant  Miss Harrison. We are delighted to welcome the children to Clayton Village Primary School, where they have all had a great start to the year! We are extremely impressed with how the children have started Reception, how they have started to learn the routines and how they have all started to make new friends. We can’t wait to watch the children’s progress and journey into Year 1

This term we have been exploring different types of journeys and transport. We have been focusing on fiction and non-fiction books including, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Getting Around Through the Years, The Train Ride, and many more! The children have enjoyed taking a trip back in time, comparing transport vehicles from the past and have been discussing their own personal journeys. The children loved careers week and enjoyed the visits from the ambulance service, the police and the railway service. They enjoyed dressing up and learning all about the interesting jobs and roles and responsibilities.

Autumn Term

This Autumn term, we have been learning about the school routines. We have all settled into school and have made lots of new friends! This term, we have been learning about different types of homes. This theme supports children to develop a sense of community as a class, as part of our school family and of their local area – Clayton. We have been on a local walk around Clayton, we followed a map and went back in the past! We have been exploring what Clayton was like in the past and have been comparing lots of different things such as vehicles, food and clothes.

In phonics, we have been learning to read and write. We have learnt all Phase 2 sounds and some tricky words. We have started writing CVC words and learning to blend words together. We have read lots of new books such as Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Lost and Found, In Every House on Every Street and many more!

In maths we have been learning to count forwards and backwards to 10. We now have a deep understanding of numbers 1 to 5. We have been sorting, matching and comparing. We have a deep understanding of compositions up to 5.
